Round 8 Review / Round 9 Preview

For three quarters Black Rock took it up to Oakleigh before the Magpies class and fitness shone through. The Rockers should have gone into half time with a small lead but were unable to capitalise on a dominant first half, booting 11 behinds. Sam Jewell kicked his fair share of points. Another fine is coming his way thanks to father Jewell's comment "Sam shouldn't miss that, he's the best kick at the club!" Thats a $10 fine, surely! Kelly Spratt has whined that he doesn't get the plaudits on the website and in the record he feels he deserves. Credit to the silver fox, he was brilliant on the weekend, as was Dave Dewer who held Steve Arvanitis goalless. With a week off we look forward to the next clash against East Malvern. The Panthers impressive start to the season hit a hurdle last week against Bentleigh. They had their chances to put the Demon’s away but their inability to punish sides on the scoreboard finally came back to haunt them. Black Rock has shown they aren’t a side to be taken lightly and if they are in with a sniff then East Malvern will be in trouble. With limited avenues to goal, Hart is the key for EM. Spratt’s form for Black Rock has been top shelf and a strong showing could see the Rockers over the line. Black Rock by 13 points.
