Round 3 SFL Preview: Black Rock vs. Hampton

After being overrun in round one it was a similar story for Black Rock in round two, going down to a very strong Bentleigh side. It was an even contest in the first half with Sean Harris and Corey Durie the standouts. A lapse in concentration early in the third quarter was costly for the Rockers and the 14 goal to nil second half will need to be rectified during the week. Last week I wrote Hampton off and although they didn’t secure the four points, they showed they’re not a team that can be taken lightly. It was Hampton’s younger brigade that stood out on the weekend with Ryan Pearce and Jake Simon provided some strong performances and some hope. With both sides yet to open their account for the season, this match looms as a very important one for both sides. A win to either side will keep them in touch with the top four, while a loss would put that side in relegation trouble early in the season. After a much improved performance in round two, Hampton may go into this match favourites however with Black Rock back on their home ground for the first time this year and the Jewell brothers, Sam and Nick finding some good form, expect the Rockers to get over the line in what should be a belter of a match. Black Rock by 19 points.
