Meet Our New Coaches: Matt Huber and Andrew Nankervis

Black Rock Football Netball Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Matt Huber as our new Senior Men's Football Coach. Matt brings a wealth of experience and passion to the club, along with a strong connection to our community. With two seasons as a Senior Assistant Coach at Hawthorn Amateur Football Club under his belt, Matt played a key role in the team’s journey to a Grand Final in Division 3 and a top-five finish in Division 2 this year.

A standout footballer in his own right, Matt's playing career includes a significant contribution to Old Ivanhoe Grammarians, where he was instrumental in back-to-back premierships in the 1990s. His exceptional skills as an on-baller earned him a place in the team's "Team of the Decade." Off the field, Matt is a successful businessperson with extensive experience in leading teams of young people. As a long-time Black Rock resident, he is well-rooted in our community along with his wife Audra and their two sons, who attended Black Rock Primary and Mentone Grammar. We believe Matt is a fantastic fit for our club, and we are excited to work with him to build a successful men's football program and strengthen our club's profile in the local area.

We are equally excited to welcome Andrew Nankervis as our new Men's Senior Assistant Coach. Andrew brings a wealth of experience in both football and leadership. Recently awarded Life Membership of the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) for his significant contributions over more than a decade, Andrew has shaped junior football at the South Melbourne Junior Football Club. His coaching achievements include leading junior boys’ teams to multiple Grand Finals, securing a Division 1 Under-15 premiership, and most recently coaching the Under-16 girls to a premiership in 2023.

In addition to his grassroots contributions, Andrew has extensive experience in senior football management. He served as Vice President and Deputy Chairman at Port Melbourne Football Club (VFL), where he played a pivotal role in the strategic management of the senior football department. His involvement ranged from player recruitment and retention to performance management and strategic investment, setting the foundation for the club’s 2017 premiership season. As a successful business owner, Andrew brings valuable leadership skills and a strong work ethic to Black Rock FNC. Residing in Albert Park with his wife Carolyn and their children, Nicholas and Hannah, Andrew is deeply connected to the Bayside community.

We are confident that the combination of Matt and Andrew's expertise and passion will significantly benefit our Men's Football program and help drive the club forward.
