Ryan Hoy Appointed as Senior Men’s Coach for 2024
Black Rock Football Netball Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ryan Hoy as the new Senior Men’s coach for 2024. This decision marks a significant step forward for the club. We aim to build on the 2023 season, which was a rebuilding phase. Numerous young players joined the club and showed improved performance in the latter half of the year.

Aged 32, Ryan brings with him an impressive coaching résumé that spans nearly a decade. His journey began in 2015 as the Under-19s assistant coach at St. Kilda City FNC, where he also played Senior football. Over the years, he progressed to the Under-19s head coaching role, undertook Reserves coaching stints, held Senior assistant roles, and eventually ascended to the position of Senior coach. This culminated in the 2022 season when St. Kilda City reached the SFNL Division 1 preliminary final.
In 2023, he transitioned to Melton South FNC, taking on the Senior Coaching role during a rebuilding year. He’s looking forward to a much shorter commute in 2024.
Hoy’s coaching strengths lie in his ability to connect with players. He is a staunch advocate for fostering a tightly-knit team and club culture.
He has a proven track record in nurturing young talent. Under his guidance, a dozen players successfully moved from the Under-19 level to play in the Senior finals series in 2022.

From the club’s perspective, Ryan Hoy meets many desired criteria:
Non-playing Coach: We felt this was crucial given our young and developing team.
Local Connection: Residing in Cheltenham and having grown up in the vicinity, Hoy has deep roots in the area. He has a comprehensive understanding of both the local footy landscape and the dynamics of the Southern Football Netball League.
Recruitment and Relationships: Hoy understands the significance of recruitment and the art of forging strong relationships. He’s poised to dive in, recruit new players, and add depth to the team. This is especially vital as we support our current list, which has seen the departure of a handful of experienced players since 2022, yet boasts young talent.
During our initial discussions in the coaching selection process, the club immediately felt a rapport with Hoy. His passion, dedication, and vision deeply resonated with us, affirming that he is the perfect fit for the role.
He will be accompanied by Marley Jobling as Assistant Coach. Jobling, with his tenure as an Assistant at St. Kilda City and as a Development Coach at the Western Jets, is set to be an invaluable addition to the club. Furthermore, Ryan will introduce several experienced Senior players to our ranks. Their combined expertise, along with our current leadership, will serve as a crucial sounding board, aiding Ryan in getting the best out of his players.
The newly introduced Football Director role will further enhance the impact of the Men’s Senior Football staff, ensuring they receive all the support necessary to deliver an exceptional program.
A big welcome to Ryan Hoy and his family to the club, and we look forward to making more exciting announcements about player recommitments and recruiting.
